UCLA Latino Policy and Politics Institute is committed to shaping a new narrative so that Latinos are meaningfully considered in all policymaking conversations.
The UCLA Latino Policy and Politics Institute (UCLA LPPI) announced today that it received $750,000 in funding from The James Irvine Foundation to support comprehensive data collection and research on the impacts of COVID-19 on Latino workers in California. The grant will also support the development of a policy toolkit to improve the capacity of California lawmakers, business leaders and advocates to champion recovery efforts that center the state’s current and future workforce.

The American Latino population’s young age, high labor force participation and rapid increases in education make them a crucial segment of the labor market on whom employers will increasingly come to rely, said Rodrigo Dominguez-Villegas, director of research for the Latino Policy & Politics Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles.
“One of the things to understand about Latino voters is that they’re late deciders and cast their ballot closer to Election Day,” said Sonja Diaz, Founding Director of UCLA Latino Policy and Politics Institute (LPPI). “And that was true for this 2021 recall election.”
