โWhat weโre seeing illustrated is about 150 years of medical neglect,โ saysย Dr. David Hayes-Bautista, director of the Center for the Study of Latino Health and Culture at UCLA School of Medicine. โThese disparities didnโt suddenly appear nine months ago at the beginning of the pandemic. These disparities have been built in, decision by decision.โ
โItโs a question of what people choose to call themselves,โ saidย Laura E. Gรณmez, a law professor at UCLA and author of the book โInventing Latinos: A New Story on American Racism.โ
โLatinos have a very high work – they’ve been essential workers, not the physicians and nurses but they are the farm workers that give us the food, the truck drivers, the food service workers, attenders, construction workers and Latinos have more wage earners per household than on a span of white household,โ saysย David Hayes-Bautista.
