Skye Isabella Waid Dechant
SKYE ISABELLA WAID DECHANT (she/her) is a Master of Public Policy candidate at UCLA Luskin and a Field Fellow with the UCLA Latino Policy and Politics Institute. Her work is driven by a commitment to advancing equity, expanding opportunity, and strengthening the connection between communities and the institutions that serve them. As a Field Fellow, Skye seeks to support policies that elevate underrepresented voices and promote meaningful civic participation in public decision-making.
Alongside her graduate studies, Skye works across state, local, and judicial institutions. She advances transportation safety policy at Streets Are For Everyone (SAFE), supports community engagement initiatives in the Office of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, and helps expand access to justice through mediation services at the Superior Court of Los Angeles County. Through these roles, she has developed experience in policy advocacy, coalition building, community outreach, and public sector governance.
Skye earned her B.A. in Global Studies from UC Santa Barbara and is pursuing a concentration in Global Institutions & Processes and Humanitarian Policy at UCLA. Her policy interests include global development, gender equality, poverty alleviation, educational access, democratic governance, and strengthening institutions that bridge social and economic inequalities. She is particularly interested in how public policy can expand opportunity and improve outcomes for marginalized communities both domestically and around the world.
