Policy Fellow

JONATHAN RAYA (he/him) is a fourth-year Public Health student with a minor in Accounting. As a Fellow in the Research Department, he is passionate about increasing representation in the healthcare administrative and policy settings where representative vacancies persist. He has contributed to LPPI by creating data briefs on the effects of HR.1, focusing on its effects on the safety net and Latino communities.

At UCLA, he is a proud member of Latinxs/Chicanxs for Community Medicine, University Catholic Center’s Leadership Team, the American College of Healthcare Executives, and the National Association of Latino Healthcare Executives. During his time at UCLA, he worked in a variety of healthcare fields, from finance to life science consulting, before moving into policy.

Born and raised in the Sacramento Valley, Jonathan is the proud son of first-generation Mexican immigrants and takes pride in his mixed Amazigh-Latino heritage. His versatile work in healthcare — like an emergency medical technician, a research assistant, and a project manager — has enriched his understanding of the diverse and complex spectrum of healthcare. He aspires to become a healthcare attorney and mentor those seeking guidance in healthcare leadership.
