GLAFIRA LOPEZ (she/her) is a second year Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) candidate at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs. As an incoming LPPI Field Fellowship fellow, she is dedicated to advocating for policies that will create equitable outcomes for immigrant and low income communities. She is passionate about advocating for equitable policy reforms in immigrant rights, tenant rights, environmental justice, and criminal justice.
Glafira has more than a decade of community organizing and advocacy experience. She was a Community Organizer with Strategic Actions for a Just Economy, where she organized tenants that were being displaced by housing developments to advocate for the protection of their rent-stabilized units. She also led a committee of community members that advocated for changes in the Citywide Housing Incentive Program to include tenant rights protections.
Glafira has also worked with multiple organizations that fight for immigrant rights. Most recently, she was a Board Member and volunteer with Matthew 25 SoCal, where she supported efforts to organize church congregations to advocate with undocumented members and asylum seekers. Born and raised in unincorporated South Whittier, Glafira is passionate about seeing low income communities in Los Angeles and LA County thrive.
