Luskin Lecture Series: Power Shift

LPPI welcomed prominent Latino leaders for a conversation on how to increase Latino representation at all levels of government amid the changing demographics of the US.

On May 14, 2019, LPPI welcomed a handful of esteemed Latino politicos to UCLA for a conversation on Power Shift. The event focused on exploring how the book: ‘Power Shift: How Latinos in California Transformed Politics in America’ resonates with today’s political landscape. LPPI Executive Director Sonja Diaz moderated a panel that included Hon. Gloria Molina, Hon. Richard Polanco, LA City Councilmember Gil Cedillo, former LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, and Hon. Richard Alatorre. The panel not only explored the historical firsts of these electeds, but sought to bridge the generational divide between students and Latino leaders on how to achieve substantive representation with the dual complexity of demographic change and political chaos at the federal level.
