Policy Fellow

YVETTE MENDEZ (she/her/hers) is a fourth-year student majoring in Public Health with minors in Chicano/a Studies and Education Studies. As a returning Policy Fellow in the Leadership Programs Department, she is passionate about health equity and educational access for marginalized communities. 

Yvette’s campus involvement reflects her commitment to leadership and service within the Latinx community. She previously worked at the UCLA Undergraduate Admission Office as a Student Coordinator and is a proud member of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc., where she has served as Chapter Vice President. As a Health Justice Fellow with the Latino Coalition for a Healthy California, she has engaged in public health through skills training, legislative advocacy, and mentorship. Through her roles, she has gained valuable experience in student advocacy, mentorship, and organizing efforts that promote inclusion and academic success for underrepresented students. 

Born and raised in Mid City, Los Angeles, Yvette is the daughter of first-generation Mexican immigrants and takes pride in her indigenous Oaxacan heritage. Her background and personal experiences deeply influence her academic and professional pursuits, driving her passion for public health and educational equity.
