Senior Program Officer, The James Irvine Foundation

 Azusena Favela has more than 20 years of experience in the nonprofit, government, philanthropic, and private sector, focused on inclusive community development. She currently oversees grantmaking in the Inland Empire for The James Irvine Foundation. Previously, served as Deputy Director for the Los Angeles County Department of Consumer & Business Affairs; responsible for the Foreclosure Prevention, Center for Financial Empowerment, and Office of Small Business. She also provided oversight of the department’s COVID response strategies, including a cross-jurisdiction partnership to deploy $108M in small business and nonprofit grants using an equity lens. 

Prior to working for Los Angeles County, she served in leadership roles with Inclusive Action for the City, First 5 LA, and CD Tech. In her consulting capacity, she worked the City of Los Angeles, Northgate Market, and Everytable. 

Azusena was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles. She holds a master’s degree in Community Economic Development from Southern New Hampshire University and a bachelor’s degree in History, Chicano/a Studies, and a minor in Education from UCLA. She serves on the boards of Inclusive Action and LA Forward; advisory boards of Rize Credit Union and UCLA LPPI; LA County Human Relations Commission, and her local neighborhood council.
